Lough Cutra firmly on triathlon map

Now a firm fixture on the triathlon calendar every May, Lough Cutra Castle Triathlon already has more than 200 entrants for next year’s event.

The vast majority coming to Lough Cutra, which is part of the Castle Triathlon Series, are from Britain, which also hosts one of the yearly events.

With a prize fund of €1,000 for the winning international team at each event, on top of podium prize money, the event attracts world-class athletes, including competitiors from local tri clubs.

Race director Brian Adcock says the event attracted 1,000 triathletes this year - triple the number from the previous year with more than 50 tri clubs and 88 different schools represented.

As an encouragement to early bookers, there is a 30 per cent discount on entry prices until December 1, which includes the half iron distance Gauntlet, the three regular adult triathlons, three children's races for 8-15 year olds, and the new try-a-try for absolute beginners.
