City to host public meeting on cyber-bullying

Galway parents will have a chance to shape new legislation tackling cyber-bullying at a meeting in the city this evening.

The meeting, hosted by Labour Party Galway West TD Derek Nolan and Labour senator and Midlands North-West candidate Lorraine Higgins, takes place in the Clayton Hotel, Ballybrit, at 8pm.

Dr Brian O’Neill, chair of the Internet Content Governance Advisory Group will address the meeting. Brendan Smith, education outreach officer at Insight in the Centre for Data Analytics NUI Galway, will provide practical advice to attendees.

“While cyber-bullying is affecting young people across Galway it is also having an impact on parents, teachers and adults who feel they are unable to tackle the issue properly,” said Dep Nolan. “This meeting is a valuable opportunity for parents to contribute to the debate on cyber-bullying and influence legislation.”
