Galway signs Declaration on Age Friendly Cities

The outgoing mayors of Galway city and county have signed the Dublin Declaration on Age Friendly Cities and Communities in Europe 2013.

The declaration, signed by Thomas Welby and Terry O’Flaherty in King’s Inns, Dublin, aims to future-proof Galway by creating a community suitable for both old and young generations through a planning process supported by participation in the World Health Organisation’s Global Network of Age Friendly Cities.

To date, 16 out of 34 local authorities in the State are fully operating the Age Friendly Cities and Counties Programme; a further four are ready to begin; nine are in advanced discussions; while the remaining five will be progressed over the next six months
