Connolly calls for more Garda surveillance after Shantalla robbery

Gardaí must increase their monitoring in Shantalla following two incidents, one a burglary and the other an attempted burglary.

This is the view of Labour city councillor Colette Connolly who said such incidents threatens the safety and security of residents.

According to Cllr Connolly, the incidents took place last Friday morning last on Colmcille Road, where two young people robbed one house and were subsequently disturbed while attempting to rob a second house when the owners returned.

“Residents are extremely concerned for their safety and feel increased Garda surveillance is an absolute necessity in the area,” she said.

Shantalla has been the target of thieves over the last eight months and indeed prior to that there have been isolated incidents.

However Cllr Connolly noted that houses on particular streets seem to have been monitored and surveyed, with the thieves waiting until the owner has gone.

She said it would appear thieves are taking jewellery and cash, which can be offloaded quickly.
