Poles apart — not anymore as Torun mayor brings delegation to Galway

Friendships forged by football fans from Galway while attending last summer’s European Championships finals in Poland have resulted in the official visit of the mayor of Torun to the city next week.

Michal Zaleski Mayor of Torun and a delegtaion from his city council will discuss Irish-Polish educational and trade opportunities when they meet local dignitaries in Galway next week.

The visit, inspired by members of the Galway United Supporters Trust will see the delegation arrive in the city on Tuesday evening.

That night they will be toasted at an informal meal in Monroes Tarvern where they will be the special guests of the Galway United Supporters Trust, the Polish Community Galway, the Republic of Ireland Supporters Club West of Ireland.

Afterwards they will mingle with local football fans and members of the city’s Polish community.

On Wednesday, the group will meet Dr Jim Browne, president of NUI, Galway. They will discuss the possibility of mutually beneficial cultural and educational exchanges between the two regions.

At 10am, they meet with the Galway Chamber of Commerce, and at 11am, they are the guests at a function in City Hall.

That afternoon, they return to Dublin where they are involved in a number of engagements prior to the Republic of Ireland vs Poland football international friendly at the Aviva Stadium that night.
