NUIG’s Babel public lectures returns

HARRY POTTER, Rainer Maria Rilke, and the international language that is body language will be discussed in a series of public lectures taking place in the Town Hall Theatre.

Speaking in Tongues, NUI Galway’s third series of the Babel Public Lectures, returns for 2013, with three lectures taking place over the next three months.

The lectures explore cultural interactions with ideas of translation. The series begins in the Town Hall studio on Tuesday January 29 at 6.30pm with Pilar Alderete-Diéz’s Harry Potter is Funny, about the tricky task of translating humour and character voices in the Harry Potter books from English to Spanish.

The following lectures are Pentecost in Babylon with Dr Tina Pusse about Rainer Maria Rilke (February 28 ) and Body Language with Dr Philip Dine which will focus on body language in sport (March 27 ).
