Man charged with cultivating €280,000 of cannabis plants

A man charged in connection with the seizure of cannabis plants worth some €280,000 at a house near Tuam is due before Harristown District Court tomorrow.

Lim Chun Wan (32 ) with an address at Corbally South, Cummer, Tuam, Co Galway, was brought in custody before a special sitting of Galway District Court on Monday. He is charged with alleged possession of cannabis, cultivating cannabis plants, and possession of cannabis with intent to sell or supply, contrary to Section 3, Section 15 and Section 17 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

The court heard that after charge and caution Chun Wan, who is believed to be either Chinese or Malaysian, gave no reply. Following an objection to bail made by the State, Judge Gerard Furlong deferred a decision on bail and further remanded Chun Wan in custody to appear at Harristown District Court.

The seizure took place as a result of an ongoing operation targeting the sale and supply of controlled drugs in Galway county. The Galway Divisional Drugs Unit with the assistance of the Garda National Drugs Unit searched the house on Saturday, June 2, at approximately 5pm. Chun Wan was arrested and detained at Galway Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking ) Act 1996.
