Man charged with cultivating cannabis plants and drug dealing

A 44-year-old man has been charged this week with drug dealing offences including the alleged cultivation of cannabis plants at his home.

Tomasz Urbaniak (44 ), with an address at Kiltrogue, Claregalway, was brought in custody before Judge Mary Fahy at Monday’s sitting of the Galway District Court.

Garda Paul Agnew gave evidence of arresting the accused man, a Polish national who has been living in Ireland for six years, at 9.56pm on February 5, 2011 and later charging him with possession of cannabis, possession of cannabis with intent to sell or supply, and with cultivating, without licence, cannabis plants of the genus cannabis at Kiltrogue.

Inspector Sean Glynn informed the court that the State would not be objecting to Urbaniak being released on his own bail of €200 and independent surety of €3,000, one half to be lodged. He added that a passport belonging to the accused has been surrendered.

However after conferring with his client, defence solicitor Adrian MacLynn said that the bail could not be met at that time.

Judge Fahy then further remanded Urbaniak into custody with consent to bail to appear at Harristown District Court tomorrow. Conditions of bail include that Urbaniak signs on at Galway Garda Station three days a week between 9am and 9pm, does not apply for further passport and travel documents, has no contact with witnesses, and resides at the address furnished and notifies gardai within 24 hours if there is a change of address.
