Citóg to celebrate second birthday

CITÓG, THE original music night held every Friday downstairs in The Cellar Bar will tomorrow celebrate two years on the go with its Second Anniversary Spectacular.

Since April 2010, Citóg has run shows featuring unsigned and up and coming Irish acts. The organisers also make HQ live videos for the acts that play and release mixtapes of unsigned bands every few months. For the coming year, Citóg is also hoping to concentrate on developing new bands, including recording and releasing EPs and albums under the Citóg name.

“The idea behind Citóg was to create a place for unsigned musicians that was comfortable, accessible and supportive and to try to create a hub for local music,” said one of the Citóg organisers. “Somewhere local musicians could go every week for free and check out what people from around the country are doing musically.”

To mark its second birthday, Citóg will host seven bands in The Cellar from 7pm. Playing are Ergot Fire, a quartet who play jazz influenced instrumental rock; singer-songwriter Jenny Liston; The Followers Of Otis, led by songwriter Eoin Dolan, influences range from The Beatles to gospel, folk, and blues; My Fellow Sponges, who perform on double bass, drums, banjo, clarinet, piano, various percussion, tuba, acoustic guitar, and multi layered harmonies; Fires Of Babylon, a two piece garage band from Westport; So Cow leader and songwriter Brian Kelly; and folk-pop/alternative rock duo Music For Dead Birds.

There will also be €5 pitchers of Tuborg until 9pm.
