THE MUSIC of Mozart will be performed in Galway next weekend, across two concerts and a film screening, celebrating the genius of the man Albert Einstein called “the greatest composer of all”.
Entitled The Genius Of Mozart, the concerts will take place in the Aula Maxima of NUI Galway and feature Norwegian violinist Marianna Thorsen and two Britons - pianist Viv McLean and cellist Alice Neary, who plays an Alessandro Gagliano cello of 1710.
The first concert takes place on Thursday February 23 at 8pm and feature violin and pianos as well as piano trios. The next concert takes place on Friday 24 at 8pm amd will also feature piano and violin sonatas and a piano trios, as well as the Fantasy in D minor, K 397.
On Saturday 25 there will be two events to look forward to. At 11am the public will have a chance to ‘Meet the Musicians’ at Maoin Cheoil na Gaillimhe, St Mary’s College, then at 2pm, there will be a screening of Phil Grabsky’s documentary In Search of Mozart (2006 ), at the Huston School of Film & Digital Media (opposite the Cathedral and beside The Fisheries Field ).
There will also be an opportunity to ‘Meet the Musicians’ at Maoin Cheoil na Gaillimhe, St. Mary’s College at 11am on Saturday, and at 2pm the same day Philip Grabsky’s documentary In Search of Mozart will be screened at the Huston School of Film & Digital Media, NUI Galway.
