Galway Lions Club go radio ga-ga — it’s auction time

The annual Galway Lions Club Charity Auction in association with Galway Bay FM and Eircom will be held on Friday December 12 at the Ardilaun hotel, and will be live on air from 9am – 1pm. Up to 250 items will be auctioned on the morning with all proceeds going directly to disadvantaged families and individuals in Galway city.

Classic Tiles and Bathroom World on the Tuam Road are main sponsors and all items auctioned are donated by the business community locally. This year one of the star items is a defibrillator which was donated by Boston Scientific. Organisers expect this to appeal to sporting groups or clubs and would encourage such organisations to actively bid for this practical and essential piece of first aid equipment.

The Radio Auction is an ideal place to buy Christmas presents with huge choice and in the knowledge that your money will go to a local good cause.

There are a number of star items including Wii console, Nano ipod, weekends away in luxury hotels, green fees in some of the country’s top golf courses, TVs, digital cameras, bikes, beauty treatments, meal vouchers for local restaurants, salmon fishing, designer sunglasses, car parking etc.

Lions Club president Jim Cahill gave special thanks to the Galway Business community and to their main sponsors for their continued support.

Eimear McDonnell, Project Chairperson, said it is a busy but very worthwhile project, and that there is great fun and excitement on the day as the bidding hots up.

“People are welcome to come along and view the items on display at the Ardilaun on the morning of the auction and have a cup of tea/coffee. If anybody wishes to donate items for the auction please contact me at 086 8340726,” she said. The Lions Club will be running teddy bear draws and cash collections at shopping venues in Galway over the next few weeks, so please support generously as all donations are most welcome.
