Carnmore see off Mellows in hurling championship

Carnmore made it three wins out of three in the Cooper Senior Hurling Championship on Sunday evening at Kenny Park when they defeated Liam Mellows 0-15 to 0-12.

Barry Hanley, who is his side’s top scorer, was the star of the show again for Mike Fox’s outfit. They now have to play Ardrahan who have no points on the board in their final group game and they will look forward to the quarter-finals with confidence.

Liam Mellows, who have four points on the group table from two previous wins, had good performances from Galway u-21 star Tadhg Haran, David Collins and Conor Hynes. Team manager Brian Hanley will expect his team to return to winning ways in their final group game against Tynagh-Abbey-Duniry.

Over in Killimor championship favourites Portumna overcame a pile of injury concerns to see off Mullagh 1-19 to 2-8.

Joe Canning was in terrific form and when Damien Hayes found the net for an early second-half goal, there was to be no way back for Padraig Donohue’s side. Francis Hardiman hit the two goals for the Mullagh men.
