Irish film The Runway to get advance screening at The Eye

THE RUNWAY, a major new Irish film, will receive an advance screening in The Eye Cinema in Wellpark on Tuesday June 7.

The event will begin with a Corona drinks reception at 6.15pm, followed by a screening of the film at 7pm. The director Ian Power will be in attendance and partake in a Q&A session with the audience after the screening.

The Runway (Element Pictures Distribution ) follows the story of nine-year-old Paco. Paco misses his dad, who his mum says was a Spanish sailor. They live in Dromoleen, a poor town crippled by a factory closure where Paco spends his days getting into trouble and his nights learning Spanish from an old linguaphone tape for when his dad comes home...

Late one night a mysterious Colombian pilot, crash-lands his plane in woods on the outskirts of town. As the fractious community comes together to decide the fate of their visitor, Paco is called up as the sole Spanish speaker – and through a translation rich with poetic license, he manages to convince the town to set out to help his new Colombian friend.

Ian Power’s debut feature is inspired by true events that happened outside Mallow, Cork in 1983. It is a story that captured the imagination of the nation.

The Runway has already received a number of awards. It was this year’s winner of the Directors Finders Series at the Directors Guild of America. It won the best Irish feature award at the Galway Film Fleadh 2010 and the 2011 IFTA for Director of Photography.
