Not even James Bond can tempt Connacht girls

Fewer than half of Connacht women would consider flying off to some far-flung country for a James Bond-style romancing and adventure, but only just, as they would put job, accommodation, and financial security above all else.

Whether it’s Sean Connery, Roger Moore, or Daniel Craig, the appeal of James Bond whisking us away is not as tempting as we all thought, according to the results of a survey conducted by PARSHIP.ie, Europe’s largest matchmaking service.

The survey which polled up to 13,000 people showed that Irish women in general may fantasise about a Quantum of Solace type adventure, but in reality they’d prefer job security, an accountant boyfriend, and marriage. So, good news for Irish lads.

When asked whether they would give up their job for a James Bond style adventure with a person they had only known for four months 43 per cent of Connaught women said they wouldn’t. Forty-nine per cent said they would consider the trip but only if their job, accommodation, and financial security could be guaranteed on their return. Finally, when asked whether they would hand in their notice and enjoy the adventure only 35 per cent said that they would be willing to.

Dr Victoria Lukats, psychiatrist and PARSHIP’s dating expert, said: “While an all-expenses paid year-long adventure certainly has some appeal, it seems that for most people this would only be pure fantasy. Even in this hypothetical situation, perhaps even imagining the perfect partner in the scenario, the people who would openly throw caution to the wind are in the definite minority.”

It also turns out that Irish women in general don’t rate James Bond-style qualities as particularly attractive in a man. Those who see the appeal of a groomed, toned body were 56 per cent. Women attracted to ruthlessness accounted for 39 per cent; to a dominating personality - 35 per cent; to an alpha male - 22 per cent; to a high earner/over-achiever - 13 per cent; and to a male protector - 49 per cent. A mere six per cent could deal with a womaniser.
