‘We’re open for business’ — the Skeff quashes ‘closing down’ rumours

The Skeff Bar & Hotel has come out strongly this week to quash speculation that the bar and hotel, as well as Karma Club is to close.

John Callanan, owner of the Skeff, has been inundated with calls recently from concerned customers, supplier,s and friends about persistent rumours.

‘I really don’t know where these rumours have come from,” he said. “Times are difficult for every business and particularly for our industry, but thankfully we are holding our own.”

Mr Callanan’s family have owned the Skeff since 1988 and he added that the Skeff has “a great local, loyal, customer base”.

“We are extremely loyal to our staff,” he said. “We employ almost 120 in Galway and want to reassure all staff that we are going nowhere.

“I also want to reassure locals who come in daily from a tea and scone to their carvery lunch or a pint/cocktail that we are very much open for business and are looking forward to the year ahead with many events planned and confirmed for 2011.”

The Skeff will be holding Australia Day on January 26 and the venue has six bars, seven screens, including a 57” HD 3D plasma screen
