Galway Film Society Christmas screenings

CHRISTMAS IS coming and it is a time to enjoy and indulge and have a laugh, and take a little break from the misery that our failed and incompetent Government has heaped on us.

What better way then to put a smile on your face and get you in the good mood for the festive season than with a screening of the Marx Brother’s much loved comedy A Night At The Opera, which will be shown by the Galway Film Society in the Town Hall Theatre on Saturday December 5 at 3pm.

Groucho, Chico, and Harpo battle an arrogant opera tenor in an attempt to help their friend Ricardo take centre stage and win the heart of Rosa. There will be carol singing, spot prizes, and light refreshments 30 minutes prior to screening. Admission is €6/5.

At 8.15pm, the society will show South Korean film Mother (2009 ). Hye-ja runs a herbal apothecary, and performs acupuncture to make ends meet. When a schoolgirl is found dead, incriminating evidence points to Hye-ja’s son Do-joon as the killer. Neither the district police nor the lawyer show any sympathy for Do-joon, so Hye-ja decides to find the killer herself.

Mother will be preceded by the Irish short The Parting. Admission is €8/6.
