Dora returns to The Druid Theatre

FOLLOWING ITS sell out three night run during the Galway Arts Festival, Dora, by the award-winning poet and playwright Shane Daly Hughes, returns to the Galway stage next week.

Dora will be performed in The Druid Theatre by the Galway University Players, a new group based in NUI, Galway.

Dora is a loose adaptation of Euripides’ Iphenigenia in Aulis, which centres on the story of the sacrifice of Iphigenia. Hughes’ play portrays the arrival of Iphigenia at the palace of Zeus on Mount Olympus, moments after her sacrifice at the hands of her father King Agamemnon.

The play recounts her recollection of those dramatic events; the tragic events that led to her sacrifice, her journey towards the offered status of goddess, and on toward a final bloody and celestial deceit.

Appearing in the play are Eilish McCarthy, Neill Eoin Bairead, and Michael Faherty. Galway University Players was established by Hughes, and NUIG students and mentors, with the aim of allowing students the opportunity to pursue excellence in all aspects of theatre.

There will be a special preview on Wednesday November 10. The main performance takes place on Thursday 11 with a wine reception at 7pm. The show starts at 8pm. Tickets are €15/10. For more information contact Shane Daly Hughes on 087 - 9307283.
