Charlie McGettigan to play Haiti benefit gig

CHARLIE MCGETTIGAN, one of Ireland’s best known songwriters, will play The Crane Bar on Thursday June 10 at 9pm in a fundraising gig for the earthquake devastated island of Haiti.

Also on the bill that night is Kinvara based songwriter Paul Mulligan, who is due to travel to Haiti in October.

Charlie’s songs, such as ‘Feet Of A Dancer’, ‘A Bed For The Night’, ‘If Anything Happened To You’, and ‘I Don’t Know How You Do It’, are familiar to many, having been recorded by De Dannan, Mary and Frances Black, Hal Ketchum, Maura O’Connell, Eleanor Shanley, Ray Lynam, and Daniel O’Donnell.

In 1994 he joined forces with Paul Harrington and Brendan Graham to win the Eurovision Song Contest with ‘Rock’n’Roll Kids’.

Paul Mulligan’s songs have been recorded by Eleanor Shanley, Mary McPartlan, and Niamh Parsons. Folking.com praised the “reflective nature of his lyrics and the delicate, sensitive delivery of his vocals” while Rock and Reel magazine described him as “a talented and sensitive songwriter”.

In October, Paul will travel to Gonaives in Haiti with more than 250 volunteers to take part in Haven’s second “Build it Week”. The long term plan is to build homes, schools, and hospitals as part of the development. Haven is the first organisation to begin their building programme in the area.

There will be special guests on the night. Admission is by donation with a suggested minimum of €10. See also www.havenpartnership.com
