Claddagh fire chief to open Ros Muc trad dance festival

Claddagh Fire Brigade Station Captain Billy Conroy will be opening this year’s Cóilín Sheáin Dharach sean-nós dance festival at Tigh Clarke, Ros Muc, on Friday January 29.

The festival is held in honour of dancer Cóilín Seoige from Cladach Ó Dheas. The full weekend of events includes sean-nós dance workshops, contest for school aged children, as well as adults, and a Sunday afternoon Gaelic singing session.

Other highlights of the weekend include the half-door and barrel dancing exhibition at 4pm on Saturday at Tigh Mhaidhcó and a Sunday afternoon ceremony honouring three Ros Muc sean-nós singers who obtained national recognition with their recordings of Gaelic singing.

This event will include film clips and sound-file recordings as well as guest singers presenting their versions of the songs connected to these past heroes. The programme hosted by Briocán Bairéad will be held at Tigh Clarke and the singers remembered will be Caitlín Maude, Seán Chóilín Ó Conaire, and Parsy Ó Ceannabháin.

As well as Connemara dancers, there will be displays from dancers from Donegal, Cork, Canada, and Scotland.
