Saw Doctors set to sing a song for Croí

The Saw Doctors, Gemma Hayes, and Tommy Fleming are among 10 prominent west of Ireland artists featured on a new charity CD created to raise funds for heart charity Croí.

Each of the artists approached hails from one of the 10 counties where Croí operates - and each has donated a song containing the word ‘heart’ in the title. The album, entitled Heartland – Songs For Croí, will be released tomorrow.

The CD booklet itself provides information on heart disease and risk factors plus practical suggestions on how to promote healthy lifestyles, from diet to exercise.

The release is part of a major awareness and fundraising initiative throughout the area covered by the charity, which is based in Galway University Hospital. After many years’ campaigning by Croí for heart surgery services to be made available in the western region, The West of Ireland Heart Surgery Centre finally opened in GUH in 2007.

The Centre caters for patients from Donegal, Sligo, Mayo, Leitrim, Roscommon, Galway, Clare, Limerick, Tipperary, and Westmeath. The sale of Heartland supports the West of Ireland Heart Surgery Centre. The purchase will help provide specialist care for heart patients and their families.
