•A new race on the Galway athletic calendar has been scheduled for Castledaly in south Galway on Sunday (2pm ). Organised with co-operation from Craughwell AC and AAI approved, the race will be run on the Gort to Loughrea road, with race headquarters at the local St Thomas GAA Club. This race is being organised in support of AIDS Partnership with Africa, a charity with which many locals have become actively involved. Local organiser Marguerite Brady says: "We know that we're the new kids on the block, but we hope to put on a well-organised race that will be suitable for all standards of runners to enjoy. “ Online entry for the race is now open at www.RunIreland.Com

•More than 500 competitors descended on Loughrea on Sunday morning for the Predator Triathlon Club’s flagship race, the Loughrea Triathlon. First off was the juvenile race which saw u-16 year olds swim, cycle, and run over 3000m. The race was won by Caimin Muldoon with Tiernan Burke finishing a close second. The women-only race was won by Maedbh Hurst . The main event of the day saw Colm Turner (Limerick Tri Club ), Ruaidhri Geraghy, and Darragh Halpenney  neck and neck through the 750m swim and 20k cycle. Eventually Colm Turner  emerged from a strong run to win. In the women’s sprint race, up- and-coming star Laura Casey cruised to take a famous win.

 •An impressive 19 boats turned out for race three of the Aquabroker’s Autumn Series held in Galway Bay Sailing Club. Although Joie de Vie started on port and had to dip behind That’s Life and Beoga, who later tore a headsail, she overtook both boats on the leg from Mutton to Dillisk to hold the lead to the finish line.   On corrected time in class one Joie de Vie held onto the top position, with Now What taking second and That’s Life in third place, In class two Laught, Golden Eagle, and Sandrine battled the whole way, but on corrected time it was Laught who took the honours, followed by Sandrine and RhoCoDar.
