Atlantic Technological University (ATU): Shaping futures through opportunity

Atlantic Technological University (ATU ) is one of Ireland’s most dynamic and connected universities, serving 31,000 students across nine campuses in Donegal, Sligo, Galway and Mayo. As a multi-campus technological university, ATU combines academic excellence with industry engagement, applied learning and regional impact, providing students with opportunities to succeed in an increasingly competitive and evolving world.

What distinguishes ATU is its strong emphasis on career-focused education. Programmes are developed in collaboration with industry and informed by emerging workforce needs, ensuring graduates are equipped with relevant, in-demand skills. Students benefit from hands-on learning, work placements, modern facilities, active research environments, and a vibrant student experience that supports both personal and professional development.

ATU offers a broad range of programmes across business, engineering, computing, science, health, humanities, education, hospitality, tourism and the creative industries. Whether studying close to home or relocating to one of ATU’s campuses, students become part of a university community that values ambition, innovation and inclusion.

As industries continue to evolve, ATU remains committed to expanding and enhancing its programme portfolio. Several new undergraduate programmes have been introduced in response to growing student demand and emerging employment opportunities. These courses reflect the university’s focus on innovation and future-facing disciplines.

Among the newest additions is the BSc (Hons ) in Sport, Exercise and Performance Psychology, the first undergraduate programme of its kind in Ireland. The degree combines psychology with sport and exercise science, preparing graduates for careers in performance, wellbeing, healthcare and behavioural science.

ATU is also making a significant contribution to healthcare and veterinary education. The university now offers the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVMS ) and the Master of Pharmacy (MPharm ), creating new pathways into professions that play vital roles in society. These programmes are complemented by offerings in Physiotherapy and Special and Inclusive Education, further strengthening ATU’s commitment to meeting national skills needs.

ATU offers 218 CAO programmes for prospective students, and one of the best ways to explore the opportunities available is by attending an ATU Open Day. Open Days provide a valuable opportunity to experience ATU's campuses first-hand, explore state-of-the-art facilities, meet academic staff, and speak directly with current students about their experiences and chosen programmes.

At ATU, students gain more than a qualification. They develop the knowledge, skills, experience, and confidence needed to thrive in their chosen careers. Through innovative programmes, strong industry partnerships, and a student-centred learning environment, ATU empowers graduates to lead, innovate, and make a meaningful impact in their communities, workplaces, and beyond.
