Annette Hynes and Ciara Sweeney recently attended a conference showcasing Royal Caribbean’s latest ship, Legend of the Seas, and discovered how innovation is transforming the modern cruise experience.
Already an award winning cruise shop, Cruiseworldwide at Fahy Travel have experienced all of the top cruise lines worldwide, but cruise shop manager Annette reports that this tops them all.
"One of Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class, Legend of the Seas is designed to be far more than a cruise ship. It combines cutting-edge entertainment, technology and design across eight distinct neighbourhoods, creating what feels like a floating holiday destination," says Annette.
One of their most impressive innovations is the largest waterpark at sea with six record-breaking waterslides, including high-speed twists, turns and zero-gravity moments, bringing theme-park excitement to the ocean.
Another standout is the AquaDome, home to the AquaTheater, where aerialists, divers and performers combine athletic skill with water, music and lighting to create a completely new form of theatre at sea. Surfside has been created specifically for families, while the ship features seven pools, 10 whirlpools and attractions ranging from the Ducky-Go-Round to the FlowRider surf simulator. Family cabins overlook this space on the ship, giving very easy access for toddlers. For Annette and Ciara, the conference offered a fascinating insight into how cruise design is evolving.
Already offering top-class food options, new speciality dining includes the Royal Railway – Legend Station: An immersive, train-themed dining experience featuring a five-course tasting menu inspired by stops along the ancient Silk Route, and the Hollywoodland Supper Club: A theatrical multi-course dinner paired with live jazz music, themed dishes, and cocktail or wine pairings. "Competing with any of the Caribbean islands, this is more like a resort at sea than a cruise ship," says Annette, "and we are expecting it to be one of our top sellers for Europe this coming season."
