The Wild Things is a solo exhibition from contemporary Irish artist Cat Coogan who lives in Oughterard.
Coogan works primarily in gouache, watercolour, ink and fine pen. She creates highly detailed works inspired by Irish wildlife, landscape, folklore and mythology. Her work moves between realism and symbolism, exploring the connections between nature, human experience and the stories held within the Irish landscape.
Animals are central to Coogan’s work, but the paintings are not intended simply as wildlife portraits. They explore ideas of instinct, perception, memory and the unseen world that exists beyond ordinary human experience.
The exhibition will bring together a body of original paintings alongside a small number of limited edition, hand embellished fine art prints. It includes works inspired by Irish folklore and mythology alongside native wildlife including deer, foxes, ravens and Irish wolfhounds.
The exhibition will be launched at 7pm this Friday, September 4. Viewings on Saturday, September 5, from 11am to 5pm, and on Sunday from 12pm to 5pm.
