A new community festival to celebrate the city’s coastal connections will run at Galway Rowing Club in Woodquay, and the University of Galway’s Ryan Institute, from Friday, September 11, to Sunday, September 13.
Sáile – the Irish for seawater or saltwater – aims to be a hub of learning and love for our coastal environment, with a programme of debate, film, hands-on workshops, local arts, and intergenerational activities aimed at creating citizen stewards for our shared ocean spaces.
This is a community-led and not-for-profit effort providing art and science workshops, expert-led discussion panels, conversations with local groups and fishermen, a screening of Sáile - the documentary featuring Carrie Crowley - a Meitheal Mara sustainable food tasting, Trasna na Dtonnta art gallery, and two days of music.
Most events are free, but registration is required as capacity is limited. Some workshops are on a donation basis or set price with the contributions going toward materials, and funding Sáile 2027.
