Inspired by boxer Katie Taylor’s final fight in Croke Park this weekend, Galway pop singer-songwriter Daniel Cohen will release a new single tomorrow, Friday, September 4.
‘She’s a Winner’ is a funky, Rocky-style anthem about Irish boxing hero Katie Taylor who ends her illustrious career this month with her final fight scheduled for Saturday, September 5, in Croke Park in front of 80,000 fans. It is underpinned by a shoulder-hunching Motown funk riff that begs to be sampled.
Cohen is known for doing it all himself, writing, performing and producing his own material and this track is no different. Inspired by Taylor, his latest effort is a funk style track which is somewhat stripped back to allow the beat drive the track in a hypnotic cadence typical of a gym work out.
Cohen has been building his career as a solo artist since 2022, earning both national and international recognition and a growing, dedicated fan base. His debut album, All Engines Running! (October 2024 ), showcased his range: ‘Star People’ drew strong praise in the United States, where his audience continues to grow, while ‘It's You!’ was named Hot Press Track of the Day in May 2024. The album also featured ‘Man of Shadows’, a James Bond–inspired track exploring a darker side of the iconic character.
With more than 350,000 streams and more than 200,000 YouTube views on his music videos, Cohen has steadily widened his reach. ‘She’s a Winner’ arrives on the back of a well-received single ‘Let’s Be Free’ which proved extremely popular in the club scene around Europe over this summer.
