Thirty years after their formation, and six years after the passing of producer extraordinaire Andrew Wetherall, the Sabres of Paradise will play Galway in 2027.
Tickets went on sale last Friday for the Sabres’ first ever Irish headline shows next year, including at Róisín Dubh on Bank Holiday Sunday, January 31.
Following on from their stellar debut Irish performance at this year's Beyond The Pale festival, the pioneers of London’s Nineties’ warehouse rave scene will also tour to Dublin and Belfast.
Original members Jagz Kooner and Gary Burns will perform their anthemic sounds live. They last played live with Wetherall in Tokyo in 1995, and the Sabres’ two albums Sabresonic (October 1993 ) and Haunted Dancehall (November 1994 ) have been re-released for a world tour.
“We want to promote the albums,” says Kooner, “and try and cement Andrew's legacy even more by doing festivals where there'll be a lot of younger people there. They can get to see what The Sabres of Paradise were about. And hopefully you'll turn those people onto the music that we made 30 years ago, when quite possibly a lot of them weren't even born.”
The Sabres of Paradise were birthed in 1991. The threesome first worked together in Workhouse Studios on the Old Kent Road in London’s East End. Weatherall – who that year had burst into the wider public consciousness with his generation-defining production on Primal Scream’s Screamadelica – asked Kooner and Burns to help on a remix of Jah Wobble’s 'Visions of You' featuring Sinead O’Connor.
