Comedy of kitchen counter dreams

Somewhere in rural Ireland, a housewife is practising her martial arts, rapping, mime and swimming, but only audiences at the Town Hall Theatre on Thursday, September 3, will discover this legend in her own lunchtime.

Cork’s Hubcap Theatre will perform Mary’s Hopes and Dreams, directed by Geoff Gould, written and performed by Michael Ryan and Sean Kelleher in Galway next month, as part of its national tour.

This fun-filled comedy play explores life in contemporary rural Ireland in a joint collaboration from Blood in the Alley and Hubcap Theatre. Playing to sold out audiences nationwide, Hubcap ‘s unique brand of physical comedy and absurd characterisations has been delighting audiences with madcap moments of slapstick, rap, mime, song, dance, martial arts and swimming!

Mary's mundane life as a stay-at-home housewife is turned upside down when her best friend pushes her into a new world full of exciting opportunities. But it comes at a cost.

Mary has to overcome many obstacles, the biggest being her domineering husband. Will she bow under the pressure of social norms, or can she achieve all her hopes and dreams?

A cast of multiple characters joins Mary on her journey of discovery to empowerment for audiences over 12 years old only.
