The Wiz opened to rave reviews on Tuesday night as Twin Productions celebrated thirty years of creating musicals.

Twin Productions Ireland’s soulfull annual summer musical is a modern, Motown reimagining of ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’, running in the Blackbox Theatre until this Sunday, August 23.

Twin brothers Seán and Brian Power, well-known for directing the wintertime Renmore pantomines, are celebrating an incredible 30th anniversary of producing high-calibre musical theatre in Galway, and The Wiz is a fittingly vibrant celebration of their legacy.

“We are overwhelmed by the response to the show so far,” said Seán Power.

“To celebrate 30 years of musical theatre in our home city with such a talented cast and a project as vibrant as The Wiz is a dream come true,” added Brian Power.

Inspired by the Motown era and the classic soul sounds of the 1970s, this production of The Wiz is a high-energy, modern reimagining of L. Frank Baum’s classic tale. The stage is brought to life by a talented cast of both adults and youth performers, delivering a "super and colourful" experience that has captivated audiences of all ages since opening night.

From powerhouse vocals, under the direction of Emma Brogan to dazzling choreography, by Declan J.Gardiner, the show captures the essence of the ‘Ease on Down the Road’ spirit.

Initial audience reactions have described the production as "electrifying," "visually breathtaking," and "the must-see event of the summer." The chemistry between the seasoned adult cast and the energetic youth ensemble has been highlighted as a testament to Twin Productions' commitment to nurturing local talent.
