The five-piece — Steve Talbot, Joe Treacy, Peter Tobin, Mike McLoughlin and Pat Boyle — secured the gig after submitting live footage filmed at Monroe’s and Padraicins, in Furbo, in the hope of taking part in International Beatle Week in September.
Although not selected for the festival itself, The Cavern offered the band an alternative weekend — an opportunity they immediately grabbed.
The performance was particularly special for The Opacas, who recorded an album at Abbey Road Studios last year. Following in the footsteps of the Fab Four has become something of a tradition for the Galway musicians.
“Playing The Cavern was a dream come true and a genuine bucket-list moment,” said the band.
The Opacas next play an acoustic set at Monroe’s next Wednesday, August 19, supporting Emma O’Reilly, niece of band member Peter Tobin.
