From the spectacular aerial performances in NoFit State Circus’ Carnation at this year's Galway International Arts Festival to the breathtaking circus acts on Take That's stadium tour, contemporary circus has captured the imagination of audiences everywhere. This September, Galway Community Circus is welcoming new and returning members of all ages to weekly classes in Westside, Renmore and Tuam. From toddlers taking their first steps into circus to adults discovering a new passion, there's a place for everyone to build confidence, develop new skills and become part of a thriving circus community.
While aerial arts continue to grow in popularity, circus offers so much more. Participants can learn tightwire, juggling, acrobatics, hula hoops, balance and a wide range of creative circus skills in a fun, supportive environment. New for this year is an expanded aerial programme, including a dedicated Beginners Adult Aerial class and a new levelling system, allowing participants to progress safely through the different stages of aerial training.
It's a fun, social alternative to the gym, improving strength, flexibility, balance and coordination while providing a workout that feels too enjoyable to be exercise.
For children and teenagers, circus is about much more than learning tricks. It builds confidence, resilience, creativity and a real sense of belonging. Three new Youth Aerial classes – Junior Aerial (8–11 ), Tweenie Aerial (12–14 ) and Teen Aerial (15–18 ) – join new Circus Sparks and Circus Pathways programmes, creating exciting opportunities for young people to progress, perform and even explore careers in contemporary circus.
A dear friend of the Galway Community Circus, Highwire artist Ellis Grover, who performed in the acclaimed LifeLine spectacle over the River Corrib, recently toured internationally as part of Take That's Circus Live Tour.
