ALDI and ABP extend award-winning Irish Wagyu partnership in €15 million deal

ALDI Ireland has announced a major contract extension with ABP Food Group worth €15 million, securing the future of their highly successful Irish Wagyu Beef Programme until at least the end of 2028. This partnership, now valued at €15 million, reinforces ALDI’s longstanding relationship with one of Europe’s leading beef processors. The retailer is now home to one of Ireland’s largest and most awarded Wagyu beef programmes.

Peter Bough, Buying Director at ALDI Ireland said that at ALDI, they don’t believe that treating yourself to the best of Irish beef should be complicated. That’s why we work with premium Irish producers such as ABP.

"The success of our award-winning Wagyu range speaks for itself, and this €15 million investment with ABP allows us to take it to the next level. By investing in the future of our Wagyu farmers, we’ll continue to bring more premium products to our aisles this autumn, making everyday luxury accessible to all of our shoppers."

Available in stores year-round, ALDI’s Specially-Selected Irish Wagyu range has quickly become Ireland’s most-awarded Wagyu collection. Since joining the permanent range in 2024, ALDI’s Wagyu steaks have amassed several awards including wins at the Great Taste Awards, the World Steak Challenge, the International Taste Institute (ITQI ), and Blas na hÉireann. In 2025 alone, the ABP Wagyu products supplied to ALDI have won more than ten awards, bringing the total number of award wins to more than 25 in just two years.

ALDI and ABP are expanding the exclusive range with exciting new products scheduled to hit shelves this autumn. New additions to the Specially Selected Irish Wagyu range will include a Wagyu Sausages, Wagyu Mince, and the Ultimate Gourmet Wagyu Meatballs with a Sourdough Crumb.

Twenty years of working together

This renewed contract marks a significant milestone in a partnership that has spanned more than two decades. Since they began working together in 2001, ALDI and ABP originally began their relationship processing just 1,500kg of product per week. Today, the partnership has evolved into a multi-million-euro commitment that not only delivers award-winning Irish products to shoppers but also supports Irish farmers and promotes the very best Irish-reared cattle.

This commitment to excellence was recently recognised at the Great Taste Awards, where ABP’s Specially Selected 32 Day Matured Irish Black Angus Fillet Steak received a coveted three-star rating. While ABP is a frequent recipient of industry accolades, this marks the first time its Black Angus steak has achieved the highest possible three-star award. The recognition underscores ABP's focus on producing quality products and highlights the premium quality of the beef supplied to ALDI stores year-round.

Since the inception and launch of the ALDI and ABP Wagyu beef programme in 2023, the programme has seen remarkable growth. The programme is currently supplied by a network of over 40 farmers nationwide, offering them a guaranteed income and a long-term commitment. This programme brings together the finest of Japanese Wagyu genetics and Irish farming expertise.

Every animal is bred, reared, and finished on Irish family farms and is fully traceable throughout its lifetime, resulting in beef celebrated for its distinct marbling, rich flavour, and exceptional quality. This directly supports a sustainable future for Irish beef farming while meeting growing consumer demand for premium meats, making award-winning, restaurant-quality Irish Wagyu more affordable for households across Ireland.
