The Office of Public Works has this week announced that admission to heritage sites across the country will be free for all visitors under 18 throughout August. The initiative aims to encourage young people and families to discover Ireland’s rich cultural and historical heritage, while helping to make these experiences more accessible by removing financial barriers.
OPW heritage sites continue to play an important role as educational and cultural resources, offering visitors of all ages opportunities to learn more about Ireland’s history, architecture and traditions.
“I am delighted that all under 18s will once again enjoy free entry to OPW heritage sites this August," Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works, Kevin “Boxer” Moran, said this week. "Whether it’s exploring ancient monuments, visiting historic houses, taking part in interactive tours or discovering Ireland’s cultural heritage first-hand, this initiative offers young people a fun and memorable way to connect with history, nature and culture over the summer holidays.”

At Castletown House in Co Kildare, children and teenagers can explore one of Ireland’s grandest historic homes while enjoying a vibrant summer programme of music, exhibitions and cultural events designed to inspire curiosity and creativity.
Young explorers visiting the Glebe Gallery in Donegal can discover the fascinating stories behind one of Ireland’s most beautiful regency houses, where newly conserved spaces mix heritage, art and interactive visitor experiences.
At Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery in Co Sligo, young visitors can uncover the mysteries of Ireland’s oldest megalithic tombs through immersive exhibitions and engaging storytelling that bring prehistoric Ireland to life.
