A well-known family business in Kilcolgan is celebrating a remarkable milestone this year, marking 50 years in business and 30 years serving the local community from its current location.
Founded by Martin Joe and his wife Mary Theresa Keane, along with Martin Joe's sister Rosaleen, the garden centre has become a familiar destination for gardeners from across Galway and Clare, earning a reputation for quality plants, expert advice, and friendly service.
What began as a small family venture has grown steadily over the decades, with generations of customers returning year after year for trees, shrubs, hedging, and practical horticultural guidance. The business has always placed a strong emphasis on knowledgeable customer service, with experienced horticulturists available to help gardeners choose the right plants and solve gardening challenges.
Today, the business is led by Kevin Keane, son of the founders, who grew up working in the garden centre and is now guiding it into its next chapter.
“We are incredibly proud to reach this milestone,” said Kevin. “My parents built the business on a passion for plants and a commitment to helping customers succeed in their gardens. We are grateful for the support of our loyal customers and the local community over the past 50 years.”
To mark the anniversary, the garden centre has expanded its range to include garden furniture, solar lighting, specimen plants, and plans for Christmas outdoor lighting, reflecting the growing popularity of outdoor living spaces.
Located in the heart of Kilcolgan, the garden centre continues to attract visitors from throughout the region while remaining firmly rooted in the local community.
As the Keane family celebrates 50 years in business, they are looking forward to continuing to serve gardeners across Galway and Clare for many years to come.
