Action: for yourself, for someone else, for all of us

Mental Health Awareness Week 2026

This year, Mental Health Awareness Week runs from May 11 to May 17, with charities and the Mental Health Foundation encouraging everyone to support good mental health. The theme this year is action because, while awareness is vital, real change comes when we take meaningful action.?

PIPS Suicide Prevention Charity Ireland believes that even small steps can help us feel more hopeful, connected, and supported. When we take action together, our impact is even greater. Taking action can help prevent mental health difficulties before they become overwhelming, reduce isolation and loneliness, encourage people to seek support earlier and build stronger and more connected communities.

Take action for yourself

Looking after your own mental health is an important first step. To do this, you could take time each day to rest and reset, spend time outdoors and stay active, talk openly about how you are feeling or set boundaries and prioritise your wellbeing.

Small and consistent actions can make a real difference over time.

Take action for someone else

Supporting others does not require special skills. It starts with compassion and being present. This could mean checking in with someone you have not heard from in a while, asking how they are really feeling and listening without judgment, letting them know they are not alone, and encouraging them to seek support if they need it.

Take action for all of us

When we act together, we can create lasting change. Share mental health resources in your workplace, school, or community. Challenge stigma by speaking openly about mental health, supporting local charities and services and getting involved in awareness or fundraising activities. Together, our actions can help build a society where mental health is supported, understood, and prioritised.

Get involved

Wearing green, ordering a green ribbon or showing your support on social media are all small ways you can take action and raise awareness for Mental Health Week. Organise it with your friends, or go solo. Big or small, anything you can contribute will go a long way in supporting good mental health for all.
