Concert pianist and artistic director of Music for Galway Finghin Collins will offer his own flourishing finish to the city’s 44th International Concert Season at St. Joseph’s Church next Wednesday, April 29, at 7.30pm.
It has been seven years since Collins has played at the annual Music for Galway season – this year entitled Breathe.
The concert programme is entitled ‘Homage to Pleyel’, the name of Collins’ latest, critically acclaimed CD, which he released on the Swiss label Claves last year.
The programme brings together composers and works inextricably linked with the great French piano manufacturer, Pleyel. These range from Haydn to Debussy, including works by Chopin and of course Ignaz Pleyel himself.
One of Ireland’s most distinguished musicians, Finghin Collins, is internationally acclaimed for his poetic artistry and powerful interpretations.
Collins has performed on many of the world’s great stages and with leading orchestras, bringing Irish musicianship to a global audience. His last solo performance for Music for Galway dates back to 2019.
He has been described as a ‘subtle…aesthete’ and ‘a thundering piano lion’ and everything in between.
This event in St Jospeh’s Church is generously sponsored by Goodbody and Music for Galway acknowledges funding from the Arts Council.
The slightly shortened programme will be repeated, with support from Aerogen, at Mount Carmel Chapel in Loughrea, the following night, on Thursday, April 30, at 7.30pm.
