Testicular Cancer: Recovery, rehabilitation and life after treatment

April shines a light on two important cancer awareness campaigns, with both Bowel and Testicular Cancer Awareness Months falling this month. Together, the campaigns carry the same message: early detection saves lives, and recovery deserves the same attention as treatment.

Testicular cancer has one of the highest survival rates of any cancer, at over 95 per cent when caught early. But survival is only the beginning. Many men who undergo surgery or chemotherapy find themselves navigating a recovery that is more challenging than they expected.

Fatigue, changes in fertility, nerve sensitivity, and the emotional weight of a cancer diagnosis can all continue long after active treatment has ended.

It's important that men feel able to speak openly with their medical team about how they're feeling, both physically and emotionally, as they move through recovery. Follow-up care matters, and asking for support is a sign of strength, not weakness.

For some men, hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT ) may offer meaningful support during the post-treatment phase. HBOT works by delivering high-concentration oxygen through a face mask in a comfortable pressurised chamber.

This increases the amount of oxygen in the bloodstream and tissues, helping to reduce inflammation, encourage the growth of new blood vessels, and support the body's natural healing processes following surgery.

Each session lasts up to 90 minutes. This can be a quiet, restful time for individuals to relax or simply focus on recovery.

HBOT is not a treatment for cancer itself, and clients always remain under the care of their own medical team. But as part of a broader recovery plan, it may help to ease some of the physical challenges that follow treatment.
