A special fight night to celebrate kickboxing in Galway takes place on Saturday, March 28 in the Ardilaun Hotel.

Galway Black Dragon fighters Corey O’Malley from College Road and Giulia Comini will fight under K-1 rules in this event. Comini is matched with a top-class Irish fighter Kady Shaw from Carlow, while O'Malley is up against a Polish fighter who is flying in from Katowice for the main event under professional K-1 rules.

O’Malley and Comini have enjoyed an eventful month, having taken part in a training camp in Phuket where they ended up fighting under full Muay Thai rules. And within a week, O’Malley was offered to fight an American fighter, who he defeated over three hard rounds.

However, due to the current Middle East crisis, their flights to Dubai were cancelled, leaving them stranded in Asia. The pair made use of their time by extending their training camp. They were then offered two more fights.

Comini was matched with a Thai national who she knocked out in the first round with a head kick, followed by a left hook, while O’Malley endured a gruelling five three-minute round contest against another American fighter from Pennsylvania at Rawaii Stadium. This one went the full distance with Corey dropping the American twice en route to victory.

The fight night in the Ardilaun will celebrate 30 years since Black Dragon chief coach Pete Foley introduced the sport of kickboxing to Galway.

Tickets are available from the Black Dragon Gym 087-8119227 or from any of the fighters on the card.
