Library hosts advice on life-changing diagnoses

The city library in Ballybane will host a famous poet and a renowned psychotherapist at two separate events over the coming weeks.

Next Saturday, February 28, poet Rita Ann Higgins, who is an ambassador for Ireland Reads, will recite her work at an Ireland Reads events at 3pm. She will be accompanied by the Ballybane Library Creative Writing Group, members of which will each share two pieces of their original writing.

The second event is a talk on Coping with the Diagnosis of a Life-Changing Condition which will take place in the library on Thursday, March 5, from 1pm.

This talk will be delivered by Mary-Kate Kelly (MSc, MIAHIP, MIACP ) who is a counsellor and psychotherapist with more than 20 years experience. Much of Kelly’s therapeutic work has been with people impacted by a wide variety of life-changing illnesses, including cancer, Multiple Sclerosis and Motor Neuron Disease.

Being diagnosed with a life-changing illness can bring up many overwhelming feelings, thoughts and worries for people. This one-hour talk will look at the many ongoing impacts (emotionally, mentally, practically and socially ) that receiving a life-changing diagnosis might create for you or your loved ones.

After the talk there will be time and space for discussion and questions.
