The compilers of the best-selling photography series, Old Ireland in Colour, will speak on the central themes of their books at a special event in Kylemore Abbey this weekend.
Authors Dr Sarah-Anne Buckley and Professor John Breslin, who have also curated an exhibition inspired by the books, will attend the afternoon series of talks at the Connemara landmark this Saturday, February 21, from 2.30pm.
The discussion is expected to touch on a number of themes in the books impacted by Irish photography, including the 1916 Revolution, society and culture, women and children, the Irish abroad, and Ireland’s scenery.
The event takes place in Kylemore’s Fordham Law Great Hall, where an exhibition of Old Ireland in Colour is currently on display. The installation, which has been running since April 2025, will draw to a close this March.
The Great Hall at Kylemore Abbey has hosted a number of cultural events since its re-opening in 2024.
“Open to the Abbey’s almost 400,000 annual visitors, the unique space serves as a vibrant cultural hub where Irish art, history, and craft can be experienced by local, national, and international audiences alike,” says Jessica Ridge, marketing manager at Kylemore Abbey.
Admission to the talks and access to the estate are included for those who register in advance on Eventbrite. Early booking is advised.
