Influenced by the so-called 'Peaceline' which divides Loyalist and nationalist Belfast, The Hard Rain Soloist Ensemble will play a unique concert programme at Galway Community College on Saturday, February 28, at 3.00pm.
Hailed as “ground-breaking and dynamic”, the Hard Rain Soloist Ensemble’s Peaceline Prespectives: Voices from a Divided City form an intriguing element of Music for Galway’s current concert season Breath.
It features elements of a decade’s worth of evocative pieces from Irish composers. The music is interwoven with voices and soundscapes inspired from around Belfast’s 30 miles of barriers which carve between communities.
This performance showcases the work of multiple composers that have worked closely with Hard Rain Soloist Ensemble and whose musical voices are predominantly shaped by their northern Irish heritage. Greg Caffrey’s Tout (Ulster slang for an informer ) reflects on the horror, danger and mistrust prevalent during Northern Ireland’s Troubles.
Elaine Agnew’s I Want to tell you consists of instrumental duos accompanying a pre-recorded voice track of victims, survivors and displaced families affected by conflict, while Eduard Zatriqi’s War Games brings the programme to an impassioned and dramatic conclusion.
This concert is supported by an Arts Council Touring Grant and presented in association with Music Generation Galway City/Chathair na Gaillimhe.
Tickets cost €18 with concession for over 66 at €16.20. Solidarity tickets are €9, and the MfG Friend rate is €14.
