Housing activists to screen Brazilian film

Galway’s Community Action Tenants Union (CATU) and Brazil on Screen are joining forces on Saturday, January 31, at 6pm, for a special evening of cinema and conversation at Club Áras na nGael on Dominick Street

The night centres on the history and organisation of Brazil’s Landless Workers’ Movement (the MST ).

Bárbara Wagner and Benjamin de Burca’s short film, Fala da Terra (2022 ), will be screened, followed by a talk on the history of the Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra, its relevance to the Irish context, and a personal testimony from an MST member.

The event will also be an opportunity for Galway’s migrant community to access CATU information, with Portuguese translators present.

Afterwards, a social evening is planned with GaelSamba’s mix of Brazilian and Irish Trad fusion, and DJs playing a mix of everything from folk to Bossa nova.

Admission free. Donations welcome.
