Do you have one free evening a week and a curiosity to learn something new? Whether your motivation is personal enrichment, skill development, or exploring a long-held interest, the Centre for Adult Learning and Professional Development at University of Galway is now offering its Short Courses Series for 2026.
Beginning the week of the 9th February, these courses typically run for eight weeks and are delivered either online or in the classroom. With a course fee of just €145, they offer an affordable and flexible way to engage in university-level learning without the pressure of formal assessment.
The 2026 series features a wide and varied selection of subjects. Participants can develop practical skills in areas such as Improving your Irish, and Digital and Trainer skills, or explore more specialised topics including Latin, Neurodiversity, and Adapting to Climate Change. For those drawn to the arts and wellbeing, courses in Poetry, Philosophy, and the Alexander Technique provide opportunities for reflection, creativity, and personal growth.
“Universities are about much more than exams and qualifications,” says Nuala McGuinn, Director of the Centre for Adult Learning and Professional Development. “Many adult learners begin with a short course simply out of interest, and later choose to continue their studies through a part-time diploma or degree.” She adds that the short courses are designed purely for enjoyment and intellectual curiosity, with no examinations or assessments at the end.
Courses are open to learners from all backgrounds, creating a diverse and engaging learning environment. Whether studying online or on campus, participants can expect lively discussions, new perspectives, and the chance to connect with others who share their interests.
Applications are online only. Full course details and application deadlines are available at: www.universityofgalway.ie/shortcourses
