Comhairle Ceantar na nOileán CLG has secured €300,000 in funding for the development of a new playground at Páirc Pobal Leitir Móir, under the 2025 Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
This investment is part of a national initiative supporting rural regeneration and community development.
Comhairle Ceantar na nOileán has welcomed the announcement, together with its stakeholders Coiste Páirc Pobal Leitir Móir. The funding will enable the installation of a modern play area, creating a vibrant space for families and children in the heart of the community.
“This is an excellent project where communities come together and focus their resources to achieve a shared goal,” said Gearóid Ó Droighneáin, cathaoirleach of Comhairle Ceantar na nOileán. “Community projects involve people and organisations working together, having a real effect on people’s lives, with the benefits staying locally.
“We extend our gratitude to Coiste Páirc Pobal Leitir Móir, who have worked tirelessly on this project over the last five years and especially during the application phase for Town and Village grant approval.”
Tina Uí Fhlatharta, cathaoirleach of Coiste Páirc Pobal Leitir Móir, added: “We are delighted to be part of this project. We wish to thank everyone who supported our 50/50 fundraising drive — monies raised will now be used to develop the play park area and additional works. Our sincere appreciation goes to Galway County Council and the Community Development Section of Galway County Council, who have supported the project through its many phases, and to our local councillors and John Connolly TD for their continued support.”
Comhairle Ceantar na nOileán is partly funded by Údarás na Gaeltachta, whose assistance has been vital in bringing this project to life.
