To honour the music they built together over forty years, members of iconic rock band Aslan have embarked on a new chapter, following the passing of their much-loved singer, Christy Dignam.

Now with lead vocalist Lee Tomkins at the helm, Aslan tour to Monroe’s on Friday, December 19, with doors at 7pm.

The decision to continue performing was not taken lightly, but for the band it represents both a tribute to Christy, and a commitment to the fans who have walked with them throughout their journey.

Towards the end of 2023, Joe, Alan, and Billy officially welcomed Lee Tomkins as their new lead singer.

A musician, singer, and songwriter in his own right, he brings a different energy and interpretation to Aslan’s songs, while remaining respectful of their legacy.

His arrival has opened the door to fresh arrangements and a revitalised, live set, including songs that have never been performed on stage.

Aslan began this new phase of their story with a run of shows at Cyprus Avenue in Cork, followed by dates in Wexford and Waterford, and two sold-out nights at Whelan’s in Dublin.

From there, the band took the next step, with tours of Australia and Britain.

On their return from Australia, Chris Martin invited them to join Coldplay on stage at Croke Park for two nights, performing Aslan’s classic ‘Crazy World’ to over 82,000 people. They also made their Electric Picnic debut on the Salty Dog Stage.

“After 40 years of playing with our front man Christy, we absolutely know it’s not the same, and never will be, but we want to continue playing our music, and bringing our music to you,” the band says.

“This is our way of letting our memories of over four decades, live on, keeping Aslan alive within each of us, and together, and keeping our music alive for you all.

“We are looking forward to seeing you again and we welcome Lee Tomkins, who will be singing our Aslan songs, and has been a huge support to each of us, in being able to make this happen.

“We, as always, are so grateful for the love and support you have all shown us, through our difficult times and our good times.

“We truly hope we will make you proud and we are looking forward to bringing you some songs that we have never performed live before!”

Aslan play Monroe’s Live on Friday, December 19 from 7pm, with support on the night from Mark Hegan.
