Scoil Íde, located in Ard na Mara, Salthill, is a long-established primary school with proud traditions rooted in the local community. Founded alongside Salerno Secondary School by the Sisters of Jesus and Mary, Scoil Íde remains true to its founding values offering a nurturing, holistic education in a vibrant and inclusive environment.
In the classroom, we continue to prioritise innovation and academic excellence. The school has a strong focus on STEM education, having recently retained its Curious Minds Award and with the recent purchase of a full set of Apple iPads, students now have greater access to cutting-edge tools for digital learning and creativity.
Environmental awareness remains at the heart of their ethos, with Scoil Íde proudly celebrating the achievement of its ninth Green Flag and maintaining its Active School Flag, both earned through the efforts of their environmentally conscious and energetic student body.
This year, Scoil Íde has continued its strong tradition in sport. The school is the proud holder of the Galway County Cumann na mBunscoil Gaelic Football title, as well as divisional champions in the Mini 7s competition. The school's camogie team also reached the divisional county finals last June, reflecting the dedication and talent of their students and coaches. Daily GAA coaching, led by committed staff and in close partnership with Salthill Knocknacarra GAA, ensures that every child has the chance to thrive on the field.
Beyond Gaelic games, Scoil Íde students have represented the school in soccer, rugby, cross-country, Olympic handball and camogie. Sport is just one of many areas where pupils shine.
Recent improvements to the school environment include the opening of a new library and the addition of sensory-friendly spaces, ensuring all learners feel supported and inspired. Hot meals are provided daily, and children also benefit from a broad selection of extracurricular activities from after-school clubs in dance, drama, music, Lego, and art. In-school music lessons, including tin whistle, fiddle and accordion, allow children to explore and enjoy traditional and modern music.
Scoil Íde makes the most of everything its unique location has to offer. The school is within walking distance of key local amenities including Leisureland, Galway Lawn Tennis Club, local parks, the beach, Árus Bóthar na Trá, and Salthill Church, where students attend mass on the first Wednesday and Thursday of each month.
Scoil Íde is a joyful, dynamic place of learning where every child is known, encouraged, and supported to reach their potential.
