Galway City West and Knocknacarra Councillor Donal Lyons has recently allocated part of his Local Improvement Scheme Funding for an additional basketball hoop to be located in the Tennis Courts in McGrath’s Field.

"I had received a number of representations from parents of younger children who found it difficult to practice at the existing basketball hoop in the tennis courts as it was regularly being used by teenagers and the younger children were losing out," Cllr Lyons said. "I was asked to request the Parks Department, Galway City Council for an additional basketball hoop at the tennis courts facility.

"However, as funding for an additional basketball hoop was not included in the city council budget, I was informed that Galway City Council were not in a position to fund the additional hoop.

"In order to avoid further disappointment for the younger children and in order to have an additional hoop installed, I allocated part of my Local Improvement Scheme Funding to fund the hoop," he added.

"I want to thank officials in the Parks Department, Galway City Council for their help in sourcing and the procurement of the additional hoop and its installation. I know that this additional hoop will be welcomed and will be used by the younger children of the area."
