Getting to know...

Ellen Greally, One More Time

Ellen Greally,

Ellen Greally,

Introduce yourself!

My name is Ellen Greally and I am a Galway-based singer, actress, writer and theatre-maker. Between touring with musicals, singing in the wedding band 'One More Time' and teaching with Stageworks Youth Theatre, I am kept busy and would not have it any other way!

What is your favourite place for a night out?

Galway's Westend! I am a divil for live music, and Monroe's often draws me through the doors with the promise of music to move to!

What do you enjoy most about acting?

Acting provides me with a space to explore the how and why of a character, story, even a simple movement like walking. Intentionality has been an invaluable lesson I have learned through acting, and coupled with improvisation, has been game-changing for me in almost every aspect of my life!

What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?

"We are literally on a floating rock," - courtesy of my incredible friend Laura O'Connor! Simple and effective, it ironically keeps me grounded.

Sum yourself up in four words

Somehow thriving, mainly improvising

What do you most enjoy about being in a band?

The fun! There is a certain kind of magic in working as a team to bring music to life and feeling your own passion and drive amplified in the people around you.

Who would be your three ideal dinner party guests?

I love this question! I feel like it changes on the daily, but currently Sir David Attenborough, Dr. Jane Goodall and Robin Williams.

What is your favourite song or album?

I really struggle with having favourites especially when it comes to music, I feel like it changes daily! At the moment, I am really enjoying Olivia Dean and Amble.

Why do you think people should support Galway's art scene?

Art is a vital part of the human experience and expression. There is art in everything we do, from the way a barista crafts a coffee to the way we tie our shoelaces. Supporting the arts in turn supports the vibrancy of the lives we lead, and it's what we turn to in dark times, not to escape but to endure.
