The Galway Rape Crisis Centre (GRCC ) is calling on compassionate individuals to volunteer for its Psychological Support Team, a vital service that provides emotional and practical support to survivors of sexual assault.
Volunteers aged 25 and older, living within 40 minutes of Galway City, are invited to apply for this impactful role. The team offers support throughout a survivor’s journey—from medical and forensic examinations at Galway’s Sexual Assault Treatment Unit (SATU ) to Garda reporting and full court accompaniment.
SATU Galway provides free, confidential, 24/7 medical care to individuals of all genders and gender identities aged 14 and up. GRCC’s Psychological Support Team is available to accompany survivors during medical/forensic examinations, facilitate informal conversations with Gardaí, and support them through every stage of the legal process.
“Joining this team is a powerful way to stand with survivors and contribute meaningfully to their healing,” said a GRCC spokesperson. “Our volunteers are the heart of our response to trauma.”
Volunteering with the Galway Rape Crisis Centre offers a meaningful opportunity to support survivors while becoming part of a compassionate, dedicated community. Volunteers receive comprehensive training—60 hours delivered over ten full days across five weekends, running from August 9 to October 12, 2025. Ongoing support is also provided, including monthly supervision, debriefings, and access to additional specialised training.
The role is designed to be flexible, with volunteers asked to commit to just three shifts per month. GRCC is seeking empathetic, calm, and reliable individuals aged 25 or older. All applicants will be interviewed, Garda vetted, and fully trained for the role.
The deadline to apply is Friday, July 4, 2025. To learn more or to begin the application process, visit www.galwayrcc.ie
