The spectacular Corrandulla Show is back for 2025

The Corrandulla Show, one of the biggest outdoor events in the west of Ireland, is on this Sunday, June 22. Corrandulla’s hard-working team are busy putting the finishing touches to what promises to be another spectacular show.

Corrandulla Show is one of the biggest Agricultural Shows in the country, attracting over 10,000 people to the village on the fourth Sunday of June each year. Corrandulla is a prime example of a modern country show. As well as the regular show activities, this extensive show provides free children’s entertainment kindly sponsored by Murphy Commercials, a vast selection of market stalls, a funfair and lots of other novelties for young and old alike. All the entertainment takes place in the main field, just beside the hall, where there will be a running commentary throughout the day, keeping you informed of all the main events and attractions, while a big screen will be provided for those interested in watching the GAA games.

One of the most exciting recent additions to the show has to be the Leonard Catering-sponsored music marquee. The marquee promises to be full to the brim all day with dancers and music lovers alike. The entertainment kicks off at 12pm with the Claregalway Community Choir, followed by the wonderful Sabrina Fallon from 1pm, and Olivia Douglas will take to the stage at 3pm, so polish up those dancing shoes. While in this area, do not miss the market stalls where the best of locally produced food and crafts will be showcased. While the ever-popular O’Connell’s Pharmacy sponsored dog show is a must-see, with over 24 classes for all breeds and some fun novelty classes too.

Visit the hall to see wonderful displays of baking and all types of arts and crafts. There, you will discover an extensive collection of competitions catering for both the nimble-fingered and the green-thumbed alike, regardless of age. The Old Hall is the venue for the bonny baby show and the little miss and little mister competitions, which start at 1:30pm, but get there early to register, as entries will be taken from 12:30pm. Always keen to support the local community, the newly formed West-Midlands Credit Union is delighted to sponsor these popular classes.

If you have a grá for history, a visit to the Heritage Society stand is a must. This year, the Heritage Society is inviting members of the community to bring along old photos from the locality to be scanned and added to their archives. They will also be showcasing some of the field names collected as part of their ongoing project.

Meanwhile, the cattle section of the show is hugely excited about a major new attraction, Lucky Day Competitions have come on board to sponsor the Commercial Championship to the tune of €1,000. The organisers expect a strong display of quality cattle to line out and do battle for this serious prize fund. If that was not enough, long-standing show supporters, Timber Products, will match this and put up a further €1000 for the Pedigree Championship. With a prize fund like this, the finest cattle in the country are expected.

While the popular Nutrias Baby Beef Competition has been a great addition, it too has a generous prize fund of €1,000 and is expected to draw top-class cattle from all over. West-Midlands Credit Union is also the sponsor of the 'Young Stock Person Section'. Sheep will feature strongly again this year with classes for the most popular breeds. As well as young handlers classes, there is a class for a 'Fancy Dressed Pet Lamb with a Bottle', which is always great fun. Do not miss the poultry; there are classes for every breed imaginable, and these will be on display near the cattle section. Egg classes and the much-loved pet classes, which are so popular with children, can also be found in the Poultry Tent.

Connemara Pony classes are always well supported, while the ridden Connemara and open ridden classes are hugely popular. Also, by popular demand, are the Irish draft and non-thoroughbred mare and foal classes. In show jumping, the Kenny Motors-sponsored Connacht Grand Prix is always a big attraction, and to add to the fun, it will be followed by a puissance. Otherwise known as the 'High Wall', it is a great spectacle and is generously sponsored by the Harrington Group again this year. Show jumping kicks off at 9am, guaranteeing a day full of action and excitement. Corrandulla is blessed with its free-draining, limestone land and doubly blessed with its generous landowners who give the show free rein and have the grounds in tip-top shape, perfect for show jumping.

Corrandulla Show is a remarkable community initiative and a most rewarding event to be associated with. New sponsors and volunteers are always welcome; you are not too late, get in touch and join the team. The show is famous for being a great day out, so come and join the fun – Corrandulla Show Sunday, June 22.
